Actions under discussion to protect these vulnerable giants
A recent workshop at the 2025 International Basking Shark Conference identified major knowledge gaps and data‑collection challenges around four key risks to basking sharks—bycatch, boat strikes, surface interactions, and climate change—and highlighted the need for collaborative, practical mitigation strategies. We’re now inviting the wider community to help build on these findings by sharing insights, experiences, and ideas that can improve how we collect data, pinpoint when and where sharks are most vulnerable, and strengthen future conservation actions.
